Alden WELL open well submersible pump, 1 to 3 hp, for wells, tanks and reservoirs

An open well submersible pump is an electric pump that is lowered into an open well, cistern or tank and pushes water up to where it is needed. Alden’s WELL series is available in 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 HP.

Many farms, villas and older properties still draw water from an open well, a cistern or a large storage tank. A surface pump struggles with suction lift in these cases; a submersible open well pump sits in the water, so it never has to pull water upwards and does not need priming.

Because the pump body is wider than a borehole pump, it is designed for places where there is room to lower it in — open wells, underground tanks, ponds and reservoirs. If your source is a narrow borehole, see our deep well (BORE) pumps instead.

Benefits

  • No primingThe pump sits in the water, so it starts without priming and avoids suction-lift problems.
  • Quiet runningSubmerged operation is far quieter than a surface pump.
  • Four sizes1, 1.5, 2 and 3 HP cover small gardens to larger farm supply.
  • Simple to installLower it on a rope or chain, connect the delivery pipe and the supply.
  • Local serviceAlden repairs and services submersible pumps in Sharjah and Dubai.

How to choose the right pump

  1. Check the source. Make sure the well or tank is wide enough and deep enough for the pump body.
  2. Measure the head. Vertical lift from the water level to the discharge point plus pipe friction.
  3. Estimate the flow. Daily water demand and how quickly you need to fill the tank or irrigate.
  4. Choose the HP. 1 and 1.5 HP for smaller lifts and gardens; 2 and 3 HP for higher head or greater flow.
  5. Confirm the supply. Tell us your voltage and phase so we can quote the correct model.

Installation & care tips

  • Keep the pump off the bottom of the well so it does not draw in silt or sand.
  • Hang it on a rope or chain — never by the power cable.
  • Keep the pump fully submerged while running; do not let it run dry.
  • Fit a float switch or level control to start and stop it automatically.
  • Have it inspected if flow drops or the motor runs hot.

Frequently asked questions

What is an open well submersible pump?

A submersible pump designed to be lowered into an open well, cistern, tank or reservoir. Because it sits in the water, it does not need priming and avoids suction-lift problems.

Which sizes do you offer?

Alden open well submersible pumps are available in 1 HP, 1.5 HP, 2 HP and 3 HP. Send us your flow and head and we will recommend the right one.

What is the difference between an open well pump and a deep well pump?

An open well pump is wider and made for wells, tanks and reservoirs with room for the pump body. A deep well pump is long and slim for narrow boreholes.

Can I use it for irrigation?

Yes. Open well submersible pumps are widely used to supply farm and landscape irrigation, often with a pressure tank or controller.

Do you service these pumps?

Yes, see pump repair & service.
