Alden WAVE stainless steel submersible pond pump with float switch

A submersible pond pump is a compact pump placed in a pond, tank or pit to circulate water, run fountains and waterfalls, or drain clean to lightly dirty water. Alden offers WAVE stainless steel pumps (½ and 1 hp) and DOLPHINE PVC pumps (½ to 1½ hp).

Water features, koi ponds and garden fountains need a pump that is quiet, safe and tolerant of continuous running. Both Alden pond ranges are fully submersible and come with a float switch option for automatic level control.

Choose WAVE stainless steel where corrosion resistance and a premium finish matter — for example in landscaped gardens and outdoor features exposed to sun, chlorine or mildly saline water. Choose DOLPHINE PVC for cost-effective drainage and circulation jobs in clean to lightly dirty water.

How to choose the right pump

  1. Define purpose. Circulation, fountain or drainage?
  2. Pick the flow and head. Fountain height needs more head; waterfalls need more flow.
  3. Choose body material. Stainless for premium, long-life outdoor use; PVC for economy.
  4. Check water quality. Algae, debris and salinity affect strainers and wear.
  5. Plan control. A float switch or timer keeps the pump safe.

Installation & care tips

  • Keep the inlet screen clean; algae and leaves reduce flow.
  • Do not run dry; keep the pump fully submerged.
  • Use a GFCI / RCD-protected supply for outdoor water features.
  • Place on a stable base off the pond floor to avoid silt.
  • Lift out and rinse every few months.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between WAVE and DOLPHINE pond pumps?

WAVE pumps have a stainless steel body (½ and 1 hp). DOLPHINE pumps have a PVC body (½ to 1½ hp). Choose stainless for premium, corrosion-resistant duty and PVC for economical utility and drainage.

Can I use a pond pump for drainage?

Yes — both models can drain clean to lightly dirty water. For sewage or heavy solids use a drainage or sewage cutter pump.

What hp pond pump do I need?

Depends on fountain height, flow and pond size. Send us the details and we will size it.

Are pond pumps safe for fish?

Pond pumps are designed for ponds, but always follow the manufacturer’s guidance and ensure the pump has no oil or contaminants leaking into water.
