Alden DSP single-phase submersible sewage cutter pump, 1 to 3 hp, blue body

A submersible sewage cutter pump is a pump with a cutting mechanism that shreds fibrous solids — wipes, rags, hair and paper — so wastewater can be pumped through a small pipe without clogging. Alden’s single-phase DSP cutter range covers 1 to 3 hp.

Standard drainage pumps struggle with the soft, stringy material found in domestic and commercial sewage. A cutter pump adds a hardened cutting edge at the inlet that macerates solids before they reach the impeller, which reduces blockages and lets you discharge through a smaller pipe.

Alden’s DSP single-phase sewage cutter pump (1 to 3 hp) is the practical choice for villas, small buildings, restaurants and workshops where a single-phase supply is all that is available. For larger flows and three-phase sites, see our 3-phase DSP drainage pumps.

Benefits

  • Cuts fibrous solidsCutter edge macerates wipes, rags and paper that jam ordinary pumps.
  • Single-phase powerRuns on the standard villa and small-building supply — no three-phase needed.
  • CompactSmall footprint fits typical septic and sewage pits.
  • Smaller discharge pipeCut solids pass through a small-bore discharge line.
  • AutomaticUse a float switch for hands-off operation.
  • Locally servicedRepair and spares from Alden’s Sharjah team.

How to choose the right pump

  1. Confirm it is sewage. If the liquid has fibres, wipes or paper, choose a cutter pump rather than a plain drainage pump.
  2. Check power supply. Single-phase 1–3 hp covers most villas and small buildings; use 3-phase for larger flows.
  3. Estimate head. Measure the vertical lift to the sewer or tank plus pipe length.
  4. Size the pit. A bigger pit means fewer starts per hour and longer pump life.
  5. Add control. Use a float switch and, for critical sites, a high-level alarm.

Installation & care tips

  • Do not flush sanitary products or large solids into a pit — even cutter pumps have limits.
  • Check the pit and float switch every few months.
  • Fit a non-return valve to prevent back-flow into the pit.
  • Keep the pump upright and submerged; avoid dry running.
  • Service the cutter and seal at the first sign of reduced flow.

Frequently asked questions

What is a sewage cutter pump?

A sewage cutter pump is a submersible pump with a cutting mechanism at the inlet that chops fibrous and soft solids, so wastewater passes through the pump and discharge pipe without blocking.

Can a cutter pump be used for septic tanks?

Yes. Cutter pumps are widely used to empty septic and sewage pits in villas and small buildings. Use a float switch for automatic operation.

What power are Alden’s single-phase cutter pumps?

Alden’s DSP single-phase submersible drainage sewage cutter pump is available from 1 hp to 3 hp.

Will a cutter pump handle wet wipes?

A cutter pump macerates wipes far better than a plain drainage pump, but wipes should still be kept out of drains. Heavy loads of wipes can overload any pump.

What is the difference between a cutter pump and a drainage pump?

A drainage pump moves dirty water with light solids. A cutter pump adds a cutting stage for fibrous sewage solids. See our comparison guide.

Do you repair sewage pumps?

Yes — Alden repairs and services submersible sewage and drainage pumps. See pump repair & service.
