Alden peripheral domestic water pump, 1/2 hp, for higher pressure at low flow

A peripheral domestic pump is a small surface-mounted pump that uses a vane impeller to deliver higher pressure at low flow from a compact motor. Alden’s peripheral pump is a ½ HP model for homes and small properties.

Not every home needs a big pump. When the job is to lift water a few floors, boost weak pressure at a tap or shower, or run a small garden line, a peripheral pump is a neat, economical choice. Its vane impeller spins water around the rim of the casing, building more pressure per horsepower than a standard centrifugal pump, although at lower flow.

If you need more litres per minute for tank transfer or irrigation, look at our AL centrifugal pumps (1–3 hp) instead.

Benefits

  • High pressure, small motorThe vane impeller produces more pressure than a similar-size centrifugal pump.
  • Compact & economicalSmall footprint and low power draw for domestic use.
  • Simple to installSurface-mounted, easy to connect and to inspect.
  • Easy to automateAdd a pressure control kit or float switch for automatic start and stop.
  • Service availableAlden repairs and services domestic pumps in Sharjah and Dubai.

How to choose the right pump

  1. Confirm the job. Peripheral pumps suit low flow and higher pressure; for large volumes choose a centrifugal pump.
  2. Measure the head. Height difference plus pipe length and fittings.
  3. Check suction. Keep the pump close to and as low as practical relative to the water source.
  4. Plan for priming. Fill the casing and keep the suction line air-tight.
  5. Add protection. A pressure control kit or float switch avoids manual switching and dry running.

Installation & care tips

  • Keep the pump in a shaded, ventilated spot — UAE heat reduces motor life.
  • Use a foot valve or non-return valve on the suction line.
  • Keep the suction pipe short, straight and air-tight.
  • Use clean water only — sand and grit wear the vane impeller.
  • Do not run dry; have it inspected if you hear grinding or see leaks.

Frequently asked questions

What is a peripheral pump?

A small surface pump with a vane impeller that delivers higher pressure at lower flow from a compact motor.

What size is the Alden peripheral pump?

The Alden peripheral domestic pump is a ½ HP model.

What is the difference between a peripheral and a centrifugal pump?

A centrifugal pump moves more water at lower pressure; a peripheral pump delivers higher pressure at lower flow. Alden also offers AL centrifugal pumps from 1 to 3 hp.

Can I use it to boost water pressure at home?

Yes. It is commonly used to improve pressure at taps and showers in small households. For whole-villa boosting, see our booster pumps.

Can it pump dirty water?

No. Peripheral pumps are for clean water. For drainage or sewage, choose a submersible drainage or sewage cutter pump.
