Alden AL domestic centrifugal water pump, 1 to 3 hp, blue pump with electric motor

A domestic water pump is a surface-mounted electric pump that moves or pressurises clean water around a home, villa or small property. Alden offers AL centrifugal pumps (1 to 3 hp) for higher flow and a ½ hp peripheral pump for higher pressure at low flow.

Most villas in the UAE depend on a pump somewhere: transferring water from the underground tank to the roof tank, boosting weak pressure, filling a garden irrigation network or topping up a pool balance tank. The pump you choose depends on whether you need flow (litres per minute) or pressure (metres of head).

AL centrifugal pumps (1–3 hp) give generous flow at moderate head and are the workhorse for tank transfer, irrigation and general supply. The peripheral pump (½ hp) uses a vane impeller to build more pressure from a smaller motor, ideal for small households, boosting taps and showers, or small garden systems.

Benefits

  • Simple & dependableSurface-mounted design is easy to install, inspect and service.
  • Choice of flow or pressureCentrifugal for volume; peripheral for pressure at low flow.
  • Wide power rangeFrom ½ hp to 3 hp covers most homes and small properties.
  • Easy to automateAdd a pressure control kit or float switch for automatic start and stop.
  • Service availableAlden repairs and services domestic pumps in Sharjah and Dubai.

How to choose the right pump

  1. Decide flow vs pressure. More litres per minute → centrifugal. Higher pressure from a small motor → peripheral.
  2. Measure the head. Height difference plus pipe length and fittings.
  3. Check suction. Keep the pump close to and as low as practical relative to the water source.
  4. Plan for priming. Fill the pump casing and ensure the suction line is air-tight.
  5. Add automation. A pressure control kit or float switch avoids manual switching.

Installation & care tips

  • Keep the pump in a shaded, ventilated spot — UAE heat reduces motor life.
  • Use a foot valve or non-return valve on the suction line.
  • Keep suction pipe as short, straight and large as possible.
  • Do not run dry; fit a dry-run or pressure protection device.
  • Have it inspected if you hear grinding, see leaks or notice reduced pressure.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a centrifugal and peripheral pump?

A centrifugal pump moves more water at lower pressure; a peripheral pump delivers higher pressure at lower flow from a small motor. Alden offers AL centrifugal (1–3 hp) and a ½ hp peripheral pump.

Which pump is best for transferring water to a roof tank?

An AL centrifugal pump is usually best for tank-to-tank transfer because it moves water quickly at moderate head. Send us the height and pipe length and we will size it.

What hp do I need for a villa?

It depends on the flow and head. Many villa transfer and irrigation jobs use 1–2 hp centrifugal pumps, while pressure boosting for a small household can use a ½ hp peripheral pump. Contact us with your details.

Can I run a domestic pump continuously?

Domestic pumps are designed for intermittent duty. For continuous or heavy duty consider a larger pump or a multistage booster.

Do you service domestic pumps?

Yes — Alden repairs and services domestic and booster pumps. See pump repair & service.
