Alden KBZ submersible construction pumps with high-chromium impeller

The Alden KBZ series is a range of submersible construction pumps for dewatering and slurry duty, from 1.5 kW to 15 kW, with flow up to 156 m³/h, heads up to 56 m and a high-chromium alloy impeller that resists abrasion. Motors are IP68 with class F insulation and 8 m of cable.

Key features and benefits

  • Abrasion-resistant impellerHigh-chromium alloy steel impeller and inlet plate resist wear from sand, grit and slurry.
  • IP68, class F motorFully submersible motor protection with class F insulation for hard continuous duty.
  • Passes solids8.5 mm solids passage on most models and 11.5 mm / 19.5 mm on the larger ones.
  • Up to 25 m deepRated for working water depth up to 25 m and water temperature up to 40 °C.
  • Ready to hangRubber-and-steel handle, 8 m cable and hose coupling make set-up and relocation fast.
  • Wide choice15 models - 50, 80, 100 and 150 mm outlets, 1.5 to 15 kW - so you can size accurately.

Construction sites and quarries do not give pumps an easy life. Water carries sand, grit and silt that wear out ordinary impellers in weeks. The KBZ series answers that with a high-chromium alloy steel impeller and inlet plate, a cast-iron pump and motor body, and silicon-carbide mechanical seals - built for abrasive, dirty-water duty on civil works and in mining.

The range spans 15 models in two outlet-size families and four power bands, so you can match the pump to a tight excavation or to a large dewatering job. KBZ construction pump or a standard drainage pump?

Choose a KBZ when the water carries sand, grit or slurry and you need an abrasion-resistant wet end. Choose a standard drainage pump for general dirty-water sumps and pits where abrasion is low. Both are submersible.

If your water also carries rags, wipes or fibres, a sewage cutter pump is the better fit. Our guide to dewatering pumps for construction sites explains the choice in more detail.

How to choose a KBZ model

  1. Start with the duty point. Decide the flow (m³/h) and head (m) you need - compare with the table of max flow and head below.
  2. Pick the outlet size. 50 mm models suit narrow, high-head jobs; 100–150 mm models move large volumes at lower head.
  3. Check solids size. Standard solids passage is 8.5 mm; choose a 7.5–15 kW model for 11.5 mm or 19.5 mm.
  4. Check dimensions. Confirm the pump fits the sump, sleeve or shaft using the dimension table (height, diameter, weight).
  5. Confirm supply and control. Check voltage and frequency on the nameplate you order and plan the starter and cable protection.

Handling & care

  • Keep the pump upright and covered by water; do not run dry.
  • Suspend the pump with the handle chain or rope - never by the cable.
  • Clean the strainer regularly when pumping silty or sandy water.
  • Do not exceed the rated 40 °C water temperature or 25 m depth.
  • Service the oil chamber and mechanical seal on a schedule appropriate to the hours run.

Protection class and standards

The specification lists IP68 protection and class F insulation. IP68 means dust-tight and suitable for continuous immersion under conditions set by the manufacturer. See the IEC IP rating guide for what the code means. Ask us for the datasheet and any test certificates before you specify a pump on a project.

What to send for a quote

  • Flow (m³/h) and total head (m) you need.
  • Water type: sandy, gritty, slurry or clean.
  • Sump or pit size and depth.
  • Discharge hose or pipe size and length.
  • Supply voltage and phase.
  • Duty: continuous or occasional, and site location in the UAE.

Frequently asked questions

What is a KBZ submersible pump used for?

KBZ pumps are submersible construction pumps used for dewatering and pumping abrasive water and slurries on civil engineering sites, in mines and quarries, at sewage treatment plants and for general pumping.

What impeller material do KBZ pumps use?

The impeller and inlet plate are made of high-chromium alloy steel, which resists abrasion from sand and grit better than standard cast iron. The pump and motor bodies are cast iron.

What is the maximum flow and head of the KBZ range?

Across the range, maximum flow reaches 156 m³/h (KBZ615) and maximum head reaches 56 m (KBZ415), depending on model. These are end points of the curve, so select on the full performance curve.

What protection class and cable length do KBZ pumps have?

IP68 protection, class F insulation and an 8 m cable. Working water temperature is up to 40 °C and the maximum water depth is 25 m. Do not exceed these limits.

Which KBZ model do I need for a 100 mm outlet?

100 mm models are KBZ43.7, KBZ45.5, KBZ47.5, KBZ411 and KBZ415. Choose by the power, flow and head you need. Contact us and we will match the duty point.

What size of solids can a KBZ pump pass?

The specification lists a solids passage of 8.5 mm on most models, 11.5 mm on KBZ47.5, KBZ411 and KBZ415, and 19.5 mm on the 150 mm models (KBZ67.5, KBZ611 and KBZ615).

Can a KBZ pump handle slurry and sand?

It is designed for abrasive dirty water and slurry duty thanks to the high-chromium alloy impeller. Very thick or high-solids slurry needs checking, so tell us the solids content and size and we will advise whether a KBZ suits the job.

Are KBZ pumps single-phase or three-phase?

The specification prints 220 V / 50 Hz for every model. Larger site motors are often three-phase, so do not assume. Confirm the supply and the nameplate rating with us before you order.

How is a KBZ pump different from a standard drainage pump?

A KBZ has an abrasion-resistant high-chromium impeller and inlet plate, built for sandy, gritty water. A standard drainage pump suits general dirty-water pits. See the comparison table above.

Can I get the performance curve and datasheet?

Yes. The performance chart is shown above at n=2860 r/min. Ask us for the full datasheet and the curve of the model you are considering, and read our guide on how to read a pump curve.

Do you service KBZ pumps?

Yes. Our pump repair and service team can inspect, repair and maintain submersible pumps, including mechanical seals and oil chambers, in Sharjah, Dubai and across the UAE.
